Chennai:

Speaking for Aanmeegaglitz YouTube channel, renowned astrologer Seetha Suresh elucidated the profound significance of Vaikasi Visagam, the avatar day of Lord Murugan, and detailed the fasting methods to be observed on this auspicious occasion. She also shared the captivating mythological tale of Lord Murugan's birth.

Vaikasi Visagam: The Avatar Day of Lord Murugan!

"Vaikasi Visagam marks the birthday of Lord Murugan, who emerged in the Visagam star. He originated from Lord Shiva's third eye. Lord Shiva, with his five faces – Isanam, Tatpurusham, Aghoram, Vamadevam, Sathyajatam – plus the Adhomukham (the third eye), possesses six faces. Six sparks of fire emanating from these six faces fell into lotus flowers with 1008 petals. Six Kartigai women nurtured these sparks, and upon being touched by Goddess Parvati, they transformed into Lord Murugan, who possesses six faces and 12 arms," explained astrologer Seetha Suresh.

Lord Murugan: The Deity of Wisdom:

As Vaikasi Visagam falls under the Visagam star, which is influenced by Guru (Jupiter), Lord Murugan is considered the embodiment of wisdom. "Those who worship Lord Murugan on this day will experience an increase in wisdom. Children, especially, who observe this fast, will excel in their studies," she affirmed.

The Significance of Kuguda Homam:

Seetha Suresh also shed light on the lesser-known 'Kuguda Homam' ritual. "This Homa is popular in North India and among spiritual practitioners. An Agni (fire) is lit before Lord Murugan's idol, and learned individuals engage in meditation. Devotees offer milk pots and perform milk abhishekham to Lord Murugan. This special worship bestows wisdom and prosperity," she elaborated.

Fasting Methods and Benefits:

  • Milk Abhishekam: Offering milk abhishekam to Lord Murugan on Vaikasi Visagam is highly auspicious.
  • Fasting Duration: One can fast for 48 days, 11 days, or a minimum of 6 days.
  • Diet during Fast: During the fast, one can consume only milk and fruits for breakfast and lunch, and break the fast at night after offering food to Lord Murugan. Some observe a full day's fast, consuming only milk and fruits.

Fasting for Family Members:

"The Vaikasi Visagam fast can be observed not just for oneself, but also for one's family members. For instance, a mother can fast for her son's academic excellence. Similarly, a spouse can fast for their partner's career growth, or for their children's artistic talents to flourish," emphasized Seetha Suresh.

She shared a real-life experience where a woman, by observing the Vaikasi Visagam fast for her father's professional success, saw him rise to Assistant Manager in the very company where he had faced humiliation. "Continuous fasting, hard work, dedication, and sacrifice will lead to success," she concluded, highlighting that the Vaikasi Visagam fast is a powerful day to unleash one's potential.
