A man in Louisiana pleaded guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl and was given a 50-year prison term and will be castrated. District Attorney Scott Perrilloux made the announcement.

Four counts of second-degree rape were brought against Glenn Sullivan, Sr., 54, of Springfield on April 17.

As part of Sullivan's plea deal with prosecutors, Judge William Dykes gave him a 50-year prison term and ordered that he be castrated on Monday, Perrilloux said in the statement.

As far as I know, this is the first physical castration that has been ordered, Assistant District Attorney Brad Cascio told WBRZ. "I want to say I've had three people ordered to be chemically castrated," he said.

"This was a strong enough case for me to take this action," Cascio said in the statement.

Later, he said, "The worst crimes we prosecute are sex crimes against minors." I'm going to use every tool the legislature is ready to give us, even having children physically castrated, to get justice for the kids in our community.

The statement says that in July 2022, the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office began an investigation after a young woman told them that Sullivan had raped her several times when she was 14. In the end, the girl got pregnant, and a DNA test ordered as part of the criminal investigation showed that Sullivan had gotten her pregnant, the statement says.According to the statement, detectives also learned that Sullivan had sex with the woman and threatened to hurt her and her family if she told anyone about the rapes.

Men who are ordered by the courts to be castrated can have their testicles cut out surgically or chemically. Sullivan chose the medical method.

Detective Ryan Bernard of the LPSO, Cascio, and the young victim were praised by Perrilloux for coming forward to press charges.

"People are afraid to report so many of these kinds of crimes," he said. "This young woman must have been very brave to tell the truth even though she was threatened and faced a lot of trouble."
